Mr. Strauss-Kahn, who resigned as head of the International Monetary Fund on Wednesday, has asked a Manhattan judge to release him from jail on Rikers Island, where he has been held since Monday. He was arrested and charged with seven counts on Saturday after a maid at the Sofitel hotel accused him of a violent sexual attack.
In court papers, lawyers for Mr. Strauss-Kahn said he will put up a $1 million bail and remain confined to a New York apartment around-the-clock with electronic monitoring. Judge Michael Obus of State Supreme Court in Manhattan will decide whether to release the ex-IMF chief
