Greece: Protesters run wild in Athens over austerity

مشاهير123- اشتعل فتيل الغضب الشعبي مجددا في اليونان احتجاجا على اصرار حكومة رئيس الوزراء جورج باباندريو تبني اجراءات تقشفية جديدة للاستجابة لمطالب الدائنين في اوروبا و صندوق النقد الدولي.
مواجهات عنيفة جمعت هذا الثلاثاء بين متظاهرين غاضبين وقوات الامن التي قامت باستعمال القنابل المسيلة للدموع و خراظيم المياه لتفريق المتظاهين.
اعمال الشغب لم تقتصر على التصدي لقوات الامن بالحجارة و قوارير المياه لتشمل اعمار تخريب و تدمير واسعة لحقت ببعض المحلات و الشركات و المطاعم حين قام المحتجون باحراق اطارات سيارات وحاويات قمامة لتمتد نيرانها الى بعض المحلات مما استوجب تدخل رجال الاطفاء.
هذه المواجهات لم تقتتصر على العاصمة اثينا لتشمل عدة مدن اخرى من بينها سالونيكي التي شهدت اضطرابات مماثلة احتجاجا على خطة التقشف الحكومية الجديدة.

English: Machahir123-- Central Athens erupted in violence and vandalism today as young people broke away from protests at the government’s austerity measures to wreak havoc.

The protests launched a 48-hour strike called by the country’s two biggest public and private sector unions.

Police fought running battles with the youths as stones were thrown and tear gas was fired. Shop windows were smashed and at least four police officers were injured. Four protesters were injured, one of them stabbed as fights broke out between rival groups. At least 18 people were detained and three people were charged.

Two mobile telecoms trucks were set alight, one belonging to the European Broadcasting Union as protesters vented their anger at the media coverage of the crisis.

Earlier thousands of people had marched peacefully to register their despair at a programme of cuts they say will slash jobs, salaries, and close down state enterprises. Some civil servants said they had not been paid in two months, and their wages would drop by 25 percent.
